Pritchard (1921-2003) became the Chairman of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Southwestern Medical School and the Director of Obstetrics at Parkland Memorial Hospital in 1955. He built a model system for handling high-risk and complex pregnancies, and helped modernize the practice of obstetrics worldwide, including innovations in prenatal care that set a standard for the nation. His research led to better ways of treating preeclampsia, toxemia, and anemia in pregnancy. In the 1960s through the 1980s, he co-authored the well-known textbook, 'Williams Obstetrics'. He turned over the chairmanship of the OB/GYN department in 1969, and the directorship of OB/GYN at Parkland in 1981. He retired from the faculty in 1990 and served as Professor Emeritus until his death. In 2007, Southwestern Medical School honored Dr. Pritchard by naming one of its six newly-created colleges in his honor. 000001126 650__ $$aFaculty, Medical$$2mesh 000001126 650__ $$aObstetrics$$2mesh 000001126 650__ $$aGynecology$$2mesh 000001126 650__ $$aPritchard, Jack, 1921-$$2lcsh 000001126 651__ $$aDallas (Tex.) 000001126 655__ $$aPhoto 000001126 8564_ $$uhttps://utsw.tind.io/record/1126/files/MSS0001-0070.jp2$$92ae7751c-7c52-424d-ac3a-3979a8dd4783$$s525634 000001126 914__ $$ap16135coll3 000001126 915__ $$a9 000001126 982__ $$aThe Office of News and Publications Collection 000001126 985__ $$aMSS0001 The Office of News and Publications Collection
