A founder and the chief of surgery was Dr. William Beal Carrell, the first orthopedic surgeon in Dallas, who had specialized in orthopedic surgery while in a World War I field hospital in France. (Specialization was rare in surgery before this era.) Scottish Rite Hospital now occupies a newer building near the site of the original building.This photo dates from about 1945.}, url = {http://utsw.tind.io/record/298}, }
