A founder and the chief of surgery was Dr. William Beal Carrell, the first orthopedic surgeon in Dallas, who had specialized in orthopedic surgery while in a World War I field hospital in France. (Specialization was rare in surgery before this era.) Scottish Rite Hospital now occupies a newer building near the site of the original building.This photo dates from about 1945. 000000298 533__ $$d2011 000000298 540__ $$aPermission to publish or reproduce must be obtained from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School Special Collections and Archives. 000000298 542__ $$uhttp://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/ 000000298 650__ $$aHospitals -- history$$2mesh 000000298 650__ $$aOrthopedics -- history$$2mesh 000000298 650__ $$aHospitals, Pediatric$$2mesh 000000298 650__ $$aPhysicians$$2mesh 000000298 655__ $$aPhoto 000000298 7001_ $$aUnknown 000000298 8564_ $$uhttps://utsw.tind.io/record/298/files/hom_00007.jp2$$92393e59b-ed23-400a-8dfe-978b641ce7cf$$s993231 000000298 914__ $$ap13044coll6 000000298 915__ $$a283 000000298 982__ $$aDallas Medical Images, 1890-1975 000000298 985__ $$aHistory of Medicine Collection 000000298 986__ $$aDallas Medical Images
