      abstract = {Dr. Louis S. Goodman was known as the discoverer of the  first effective anticancer chemotherapy and was the  co-creator of the classic textbook "Pharmacological Basis  of Therapeutics", co-written with colleague Alfred Z.  Gilman, Ph.D. In cancer chemotherapy, the first effective  drug was nitrogen mustard. In 1946, the government gave Dr.  Goodman's team permission to publish the first paper on the  use of nitrogen mustard in cancer treatment. Nitrogen  mustard became a model for the discovery of other classes  of anticancer drugs, and chemotherapy went on to become a  standard treatment for many cancers, often in combination  with surgery and radiation. The UT Southwestern Archives  has a small collection of Dr. Goodman's papers that are  related to his work on the textbook "Pharmacological Basis  of Therapeutics".},
